Access to the Rockingham Mausoleum is by an unmade carriage drive through private woodland off the B6091, Cortworth Lane. On a summer day, it is a pleasant, slightly uphill walk between the trees which hide all sign of the Mausoleum.

The first indication of the massive grandeur of the Mausoleum is a fifty foot high obelisk that appears, hazy against the southern sky, as you round a curve in the drive.
