Keppel's Column shot in silhouette from the north shortly before one o'clock, BST. By midday, the sun will be in line with the edges of the viewing platform and the sense of depth given by the slight angle will be lost.
This photograph was taken at the end of August. Earlier in summer, the sun will be too high to show the full column in such a shot.
