The best approach to Keppel's Column has to be from the Needle's Eye for the route offers several tantalizing glimpses of the column culminating in the perfect setting as it passes through the charming village of Scholes. Just as you are descending through the village, the column appears suddenly on the skyline half a mile away and directly to the south. Parking for a few minutes on the roadside is usually no problem, traffic through the village is light, and the residents are quite used to strangers standing in the middle of the road as they seek that perfect shot.
