The doorway and inscription on the south wall
The doorway and inscription on the south wall

The stone doorway extends to the top of the base and is over twice the height of a man. It is surmounted by the inscription.

Some apparent decoration just above the door has been all but lost to the processes of weathering and cleaning.

The building itself is open to the public only from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday afternoons between Spring Bank Holiday and August Bank Holiday.

Next: Detail of the inscription over the doorway.
