Detail of stonework on the north-east base

Hoober Stand has withstood over two and a half centuries of wind, weather and industrial pollution. Erosion of the stone face is minimal and the major need for the renovation carried out over the past few years was occasioned by mining subsidence and lightning strike.

Only a few of the dressed stones were weathered enough to need replacing. These are at the eastern end of the north-eastern base.

Next: The south wall, looking upwards from the doorway.
