Although Hoober Stand is visible as a prominent landmark from miles around, the surrounding trees obscure it in the immediate vicinity and it cannot be seen from the road running just a few yards to the north.

The temporary disappearance only serves to intensify the folly's image of stark solidity and strength as the full might of the huge stone watchtower looms suddenly overhead.
