The 'Eye' of the Needle from the south (SSW) with the bench on the inside west wall illuminated by the morning sun. The wall above it is weathered quite badly where stone of inferior quality was probably used to cut costs.

The footpath giving access runs on an ESE to WNW line at this point just beyond the fence seen through the 'Eye'. The path is a continuation of Street Lane so it is possible that the monument is sited on a crossroads of local importance.

Next: Detail of weathered stone on the inside western wall.
