An intruder broke into an aquarium in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, and left a tropical fish in one of the tanks. The fish, thought to be a vegetarian relative of the piranha, is so big that it cannot turn round. A penguin on the way to the vet disappeared in Sheerness, Kent, when the owner stopped his van to use a cash machine. The penguin was fed on cat food. An American bald eagle diappeared during a training flight at Banham Zoo in Norfolk after triggering a farmer's bird scarer. After being sold to new owners in Rigg, North Yorkshire, Polly, a red Fresian cow, escaped through the milking parlour door and walked up the drive, turned right at a crossroads and found her way back to her old farm two miles away. A border collie fell 60-foot from a Cornwall clifftop and survived in a cove for more than a month by eating rubbish and drinking out of rock pools before being found by a surfer. A west highland terrier in Cheltenham came to a sticky end after chewing junk mail. The dog's teeth became glued together when its saliva softened the envelope seal. |
