I have 18 birds. The two snakes have no feet, so the remaining 34 animals are either birds, with 2 feet each, or mammals, with 4 feet each. Since they are all in excellent condition, none is missing a foot - or a head! Twice 34 is 68, so the remaining 32 feet belong to 16 mammals. 34 minus 16 is 18. (An answer based on a 'trick' question which reckons the two 24-inch snakes as having '4 feet' would be very silly since it wouldn't take into account the length of the other animals.) | |

When Hamburg police raided Daniel Slinger's flat, they found it decorated with 422 sets of false teeth - the result of 10 years of dental thefts. Peter the Great, Czar of Russia, decorated his Museum of Curiosities with pickled freaks of nature, including a sheep with five legs and a human with two heads. Birmingham's Steve Haywood has decorated his home with over 60 scarecrows. Although being offered up to £1000 for some of them, Steve is reluctant to sell his creations which include 'Miss Prim', the teacher, and 'Sheila Bilge', the village tart. The local authority's insistence that 50 year old antiques dealer, Roderick Baker, clean up the rubbish in his yard sparked off a hostage situation. Baker held 140 chickens at knifepoint, threatening to kill one a minute until the sanitation officials left his land. The police were called and arrested him after three birds were killed. |
