When 22 year old Cambodian Chiang Hock Goan acquired a lucky talisman, he asked a local soldier to help him test its efficacy by firing his rifle at him. The soldier shot him dead. Demonstrating how tough the glass is in high-rise buildings, Gary Hoy of Toronto shoulder-charged the window, went straight through it and fell 24 floors to his death. The man who tried to end it all by jumping off the Oakland Bay Bridge on Boxing Day, 1995, was luckier. He landed only yards from a psychiatrist out sailing.
