Devil's Arrow, Boroughbridge

Devil's Arrow, Boroughbridge
Standing quite neglected in the fields outside Boroughbridge, one of the three large upright stones, known as The Devil's Arrows. Legend has it that as the Devil was chased from a Druid's assembly, he threw these stones at the nearby old town of Aldborough. It is thought that the alignment originally consisted of five stones erected by a solar cult. A solstice fair was held at the stones until the Middle Ages.
