Grough

the Border Collie

Grough in the heather. 11 weeks old

We have a dog,
His name is Grough,
His voice is too,
When he says "Woof!"

A 'grough' (pronounced 'gruff') is an eroded channel in upland peat moors, especially in the Dark Peak. The erosion often uncovers patchy areas of rock which show as light grey - sometimes almost white - against the ribbon of black peat cutting through the heather.

This particular Grough is a Border Collie and he was born on 9th November, 2000, in the village of Combs near Chapel-en-le-Frith in the Peak District. He adopted David and Chris on 6th January, 2001.
