Four Winds
The cold North winds do Courage bring,
And Wisdom from the East in Spring;
True Knowledge flows from Western breeze,
But from the languid Southerlies,
Comes every breath and sigh of Sin.
Our Valour test when North wind blow,
Our Wisdom notes how Spring blooms grow,
And Science bathes in Zephyr's balm;
But basking in the South wind's calm,
The comfort of all Sin we know.
So, to the North we brave our chill,
Aware East soon our minds shall still;
And that the warm West winds erelong,
Will orchestrate the mental song,
That oils the working of Sin's will.
True Wisdom issues from the East,
When, coldly, we expect it least;
But Knowledge from the West we find,
Does never sate our questing mind,
That seeks in Sin its Southern feast.
Four winds of quality ride forth:-
As Courage gallops from the North;
As Wisdom canters from the East;
As Knowledge, rightly trots from West:
So Sin must walk - and from the South.
